Town Announce First Pre-Season Signing: Goalkeeper Murphy Mahoney

Swindon Town has this afternoon announces the signing of 21-year-old goalkeeper Murphy Mahoney from QPR on a season-long loan, pending EFL approval.

Mahoney, who joined Rangers as a ten-year-old made his first-team debut for the R’s at Preston towards the end of the 2021/22 campaign.

This move to The County Ground marks his fourth loan spell in his career. Previously, he had successful stints at National League South clubs Welling United and Bath City in 2021, as well as Stratford Town last season.

Expressing his enthusiasm, Mahoney stated in an interview with Town’s Media Team, “I am absolutely delighted to be here, and ever since I knew there was interest from Swindon, I was just itching to get down here and now I’m buzzing to be here.”

“Michael was a massive influence in coming to Swindon, and ever since I had conversations with the Manager and Mildy, I just knew I wanted to be a part of it.”

Manager Michael Flynn expressed his thoughts on the new signing, saying, “Murphy is someone I tracked whilst I was at Walsall.”

“I’ve watched a lot of his games and his attitude is unbelievable. He has played Championship games and a few loan spells and he is highly thought of at Queens Park Rangers and Charlie remembers him from his spell at Loftus Road.”

“Murphy is somebody who will drive standards every day in training and I can’t wait to start working with him.”
