Top of the table finish still in sight for Robins

Swindon complete their regular Premiership campaign at King’s Lynn on Monday – and they can still finish top of the table.

The CFS Filtration Robins are vying with Poole for the right to be able to pick semi-final opponents in the play-offs.

Swindon are one point ahead going into Monday’s fixtures, but with Poole at home to Ipswich a win for the Pirates there will mean the Robins need to avoid defeat in Norfolk – and then it would come down to Poole’s own trip to King’s Lynn, with a date to be confirmed for that fixture.

The Stars have missed out on the play-offs but that is almost entirely down to their away form, as they have turned the Adrian Flux Arena into something of a fortress as the season has gone on.

Only Ipswich have taken any points whatsoever from league visits to King’s Lynn in 2019, as they secured a 45-45 draw in mid-June – and other than that, the Robins’ 40-49 defeat in early July is the closest that any away side has come.

That meeting saw Swindon get off to a poor start, with a couple of controversial decisions also hampering their efforts to recover for a league point.

The Stars will be without Thomas Jorgensen, who suffered a shoulder injury at Sheffield last week, but Robert Lambert and Michael Palm Toft, who missed their match in Dorset on Thursday, do return.

Robins, meanwhile, are at full strength at the start of a week which also features the second leg of the Premiership Supporters’ Cup Final against Belle Vue at the Abbey on Thursday.

Boss Alun Rossiter said: “We still have a chance of finishing top, although in the bigger picture it doesn’t worry me who we face in the play-offs.

“To be Champions we’ll have to beat two of the other three clubs in the play-offs whatever happens, and I’m confident in the boys that we can do that.

“We’re feeling good at home and we’ve generally got close away even if we haven’t often had the whole team firing at the same time.

“We lost it in the first six races at King’s Lynn last time, so it’s all about reading the conditions and hopefully making a better start.”
