Swindon Town Football Club has today announced the signing of midfielder Dan Kemp from MK Dons on a season-long loan, pending approval from the English Football League (EFL).
The 24-year-old Kemp began his football journey in the prestigious academy of West Ham United in 2015, following an earlier stint in Chelsea’s youth academy during his formative years.
Although Kemp made appearances in the EFL Trophy for West Ham, he sought a loan move to gain regular playing time. He spent the 2020-21 season on loan at EFL League One and Two clubs Stevenage and Blackpool, respectively.
Following his departure from West Ham, Kemp joined Leyton Orient, a fellow London-based club, before the start of the 2021-22 season. He quickly established himself as a regular in their League Two campaign, impressing with his performances on the field.
Continuing his upward trajectory, Kemp secured a move to MK Dons in League One, where he has made 10 appearances in England’s third tier.
However, it was during his recent loan spell with Hartlepool United in League Two that Kemp truly shone. He netted an impressive nine goals in 16 appearances, earning him the well-deserved accolade of EFL League Two Player of the Month in February. Kemp is eager to replicate this stellar form with Swindon Town.
In an interview with the club’s media team, Kemp expressed his excitement about joining the team, saying, “I’ve always come up against Swindon teams and felt they are a really good club. There are many different reasons to come here, but I just feel like this is the right move for this stage in my career.”
Manager Michael Flynn is equally enthusiastic about the signing, stating, “I’m really looking forward to working with him.
“He had a very, very successful loan period at the end of last season with Hartlepool, hitting double figures in goals and assists and I think with his ability and his upbringing where he came through, we’ve got a player on our hands!
“It’s not just his goals, but his set-piece delivery too and he can play in a number of positions so he will provide competition across the midfield, which is great for us.”
Welcome to the club Dan.
