Swindon Town have this evening announced the permanent signing of versatile defender Jeff King, pending approval from the English Football League (EFL).
King, who hails from Liverpool, brings a wealth of experience and a notable track record to the County Ground.
King’s football journey began in non-league football before he secured a professional contract with Bolton Wanderers, where he made his debut against West Ham United in the EFL Cup in September 2017. His career then took him to Scotland’s Premiership, before he found prominence with National League side FC Halifax Town. Joining The Shaymen in August 2019, King made 68 appearances over two seasons, netting seven goals. His standout performances earned him FC Halifax Town’s Player of the Season Award and a place in the National League’s Team of the Season for the 2020-2021 campaign.
King’s impressive form led to a move to Chesterfield for the 2021-22 season. At Chesterfield, he played a pivotal role in their promotion back to League Two, making over 100 appearances and scoring 13 goals. His contributions were recognised with a spot in the National League Team of the Year for the 2022-23 season.
The 28-year-old’s ability to perform on both the right and left flanks of defence, combined with his goal-scoring prowess, makes him a valuable addition to Swindon Town. King had a brief taste of life at Swindon last weekend, playing as ‘Trialist A’ in the 1-0 pre-season victory over League One side Wycombe Wanderers.
Speaking after his move was confirmed, King expressed his enthusiasm: “From the moment I came in last week, I felt really at home straight away and had a great feeling about it. I’m really excited now for what’s ahead and can’t wait to get going here. I want to help a big club like Swindon climb up the leagues and be a part of something special. I feel like I’ve got more to give, and I’m hopeful I can achieve that with Swindon.”
