Swindon Town continue to add to the first team squad this transfer deadline day confirming the signing of Danny Butterworth from Carlisle United on a two-year deal, pending EFL approval.
The former Manchester United youth player has made the switch to the County Ground, bringing with him a wealth of experience across the English Football League .
Butterworth, now 24, started his footballing journey at Manchester United’s youth academy before moving to Blackburn Rovers, where he first showcased his talents in the development squad. In October 2017, he was rewarded with his first professional contract and went on to make his mark with several appearances in the Championship. His journey continued with loan spells at Fleetwood Town and Port Vale, where he gained over 70 appearances in League One, further honing his skills.
Last season, Butterworth played for Carlisle United, where he impressed with his creative flair and forward-thinking approach. Now, he aims to bring that same energy and creativity to Swindon Town’s attacking line-up as the club gears up for a strong campaign in League Two. This move also marks Butterworth’s first venture down south, adding an exciting new chapter to his career.
Upon signing with Swindon Town, Butterworth expressed his enthusiasm: “I’m happy to finally be here and get it over the line. It’s a move that’s been on the cards for a while, so I’m delighted to finally get it done. I think I’m quite a creative player, attacking-minded. I look to go forward all the time and hopefully, I can provide the goals and assists for the team.”
Jamie Russell, Swindon Town’s Head of Football, shared his thoughts on the new signing: “Danny is an exciting midfielder who we feel will add creativity and forward-thinking in the middle of the park to our side. We’re very pleased to have secured his signature as we feel he has the right kind of attributes to suit the player we are looking to bring a creative spark to our system and think he will play a key role in our attacking options.”
As Swindon Town continue to build their squad for the 2024/25 season, Butterworth’s arrival is seen as a significant boost to the team’s ambitions. His experience in both the Championship and League One makes him a valuable asset, and the club is eager to see how he will contribute to their success in the coming season.
