Swindon Speedway’s night of celebration

Swindon’s title-winning heroes will gather for a night of Celebration at The Abbey Stadium on tonight.

The Carpets4Less Robins will reunite for the first time since clinching the SGB Premiership on a memorable night at Wolverhampton on October 4, courtesy of a dramatic last heat decider.

It was the first time since 2012 the Blunsdon outfit have secured the title as they made history by becoming the first side to overturn a first leg deficit in the Grand Final.

The riders will parade the league trophy in front of supporters before being interviewed one-by-one by club presenter Richard Crowley.

Management and riders, except Jason Doyle who has his sights on securing his first World Championship in Australia on Saturday October 28, will be in attendance and will be available for photos and autographs after the official proceedings.

Robins boss Alun Rossiter said: “Because of other racing commitments, we haven’t had chance to celebrate it yet so we’re all really, really looking forward to Thursday.

“We stayed a bit longer after winning the league at Wolverhampton but then the boys went off as normal because they’ve still been racing here, there and everywhere.

“But I’m sure when we’re all back together at The Abbey on a non-racenight and just a special event to bring the trophy home, I’m sure that’s when it will properly sink in.

“The fans have been massively supportive of the team overall this year, particularly when we went on that 17 meeting unbeaten run, and it’s going to be an occasion to remember as we parade that trophy around The Abbey!

“We encourage as many of our supporters to come along as they can because this is a night of celebration that everyone connected to the club deserves.”

Gates and the middle bar will be open from 6.30 with the team heading out to parade the trophy around 7.15.

While car parking and admission for the special event is free, the club do urge supporters to make a donation to the Speedway Riders’ Benevolent Fund upon entry to the stadium.

Regular supporters, general public and members of the media are invited to a night of celebration at The Abbey Stadium.
