Nick Morris admits that it’s all about “peaking at the right time” as the Robins prepare for a vital clash at Belle Vue.
The fast Aussie leads Swindon into the crunch battle in Manchester tonight having run the Aces close just two months ago.
Robins go into the Premiership head-to-head at full strength while the home side have fitness worries over key man Jason Garrity.
But Morris knows that if the Wiltshire side are to retain their league title, they must hit form ready for the Play-Offs like a year ago.
He said: “Belle Vue have got a good team and it’s quite a fast track. You need to have a good set-up early on. I had a shocker last time on BT Sport there.
“But we’ve got some equipment working a lot better now and a lot more confident in what we are riding, that’s for sure.
“It’s important to stay at the top of the league. But it’s not the end of the world whatever the result. It’s still early day in the Premiership and a lot of meetings to do. We’ve just got to be there at the end, it’s all about peaking at the right time in late August.”
Morris had the huge shoes to fill of departing top man World Champion Jason Doyle during the close season. However, he’s delighted the way it has worked out so far.
He added: “I’m happy with the extra responsibility at Swindon. I didn’t know what was going to happen during the winter.
“It was hard for me to compete with the World Champion as far as keeping my team place. What team don’t want to have the World Champion?
“But I spoke with Doyley as well and he didn’t want to fight, he could have got a team anywhere. We are friends and didn’t want any issue over a team, he didn’t need to.
“It worked out that I got chosen and I’ve just been trying to do the best job possible.
“I’m happy to be at Swindon as No1 and captain and just trying to get the best results in every meeting.”
