Swindon star Nick Morris reignited his Australian Championship hopes with a fine victory in round two of the competition in Undera.
The popular 21-year-old bounced back from a disappointing first round showing to notch a memorable win and claim 16 points to boost his title chances at the halfway stage of the series.
The result moves him onto 25 points – just three behind leader Sam Masters – heading into the final two rounds on Friday and Saturday.
It was an excellent night for Robins’ man Morris as he beat Mason Campton and Sam Masters to the top step on the rostrum – and he was delighted with his performance.
“I was stoked to go out there and come away with the win,” Morris said. “I’m back in the game now after a tough first round so I’m really pleased.
“I’ve got to move onto the next one now, and hopefully I can keep this form going in the last two rounds to come out on top.”
However, Swindon colleagues Justin Sedgmen and Josh Grajczonek experienced nights to forget as they both crashed out of the meeting.
Grajczonek was withdrawn after a first bend tangle in heat four whilst Sedgmen, who also suffered a crash in the opening round, spectacularly high-sided in heat eight.
He eventually pulled out with a shoulder injury – but despite his disappointment he is optimistic of being fit to ride in the final two rounds.
Sedgmen said: “I’m devastated with how tonight has gone. I wanted to put pressure on the guys at the top, and I was confident I could do that, but it’s just another night to forget.
“The track was terrible from the start and I think by the end there was six riders who had been withdrawn including myself.
“I have a lot of pain in my shoulder and when I get back to Mildura I’ll go and get it checked out. My aim is to race in the final two rounds, I want to win one, especially at Mildura!
“Let’s see what the next couple of days bring, I’m hopeful that it’s nothing too serious and we can get back on track with a good result in Gillman.”
