Nick Morris has been named Swindon skipper for the defence of their Premiership title.
Aussie ace Morris impressed Robins bosses last season with a fine run of form and is set to take his career to the next level.
Manager Alun Rossiter has revealed how it was a straight choice between Morris and French favourite David Bellego.
He said: “This is something I believe Nick is ready for, the next stage of his career.
“He was excellent last season and I have no doubt he’s capable of handling the extra responsibility.
“It was between him and David but I don’t feel David needs the added pressure in only his second season with us.”
Rossiter has also heaped praise on the Abbey Stadium Track after riders gave it the thumbs up at press and practice.
“It’s the best I’ve seen it for a long time,” said Rossiter. “All the boys enjoyed going round, we had a good session on the track and we are rating to go.”
