Swindon Town striker Aaron Drinan is attracting growing interest from League One clubs after a blistering start to the new League Two campaign, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.
The 27-year-old Irishman has bagged six goals already this season, including strikes in four consecutive games, as Ian Holloway’s side fly high at the top of the table.
Sources have told SportsBoom that the likes of AFC Wimbledon, Barnsley, Exeter City and Lincoln City are monitoring Drinan’s situation ahead of the January transfer window.
Swindon stance
Despite the attention, Swindon are unlikely to cash in. Promotion is firmly the target for Holloway’s Robins, and the club have strengthened their squad further with the addition of striker Ollie Palmer from Championship side Wrexham.
Drinan only signed a two-year contract extension this summer, committing his future to the County Ground until 2027.
At the time, he said:
“I’m really pleased to be extending my stay at Swindon. I’ve enjoyed every minute here, and I believe we’re building something special. From the dressing room to the fans, everything about this club feels right to me. I’m happy the gaffer has shown faith in me.”
Career so far
Drinan, capped by Republic of Ireland at U19 level, moved to England in 2018 to join Ipswich Town for a reported £90,000 fee.
After a loan spell back at Waterford, where he netted seven goals in 18 appearances, he switched to Leyton Orient in 2021.
He scored 16 goals in his first season in East London, helping Orient secure promotion to League One, before moving to Swindon in February 2024.
With Drinan now hitting his stride under Holloway, interest is only set to intensify as January approaches.
