Swindon Town fans have been given another reason to look forward to the new season with the announcement that highly‑rated defender Finley Munroe has joined the club on a season‑long loan from Premier League side Aston Villa, subject to EFL approval.
The 20‑year‑old, who has come through the ranks at Villa Park, arrives at the Nigel Eady County Ground with a reputation for pace, composure and a sharp defensive mind. Having already tested himself in both domestic and European football, he now steps into League Two with a clear aim – to help strengthen a Robins back line that is being carefully shaped for the 2025/26 campaign.
Munroe has featured for Aston Villa’s Under‑21s and made his first‑team league debut against Crystal Palace, as well as a European appearance against Olympiakos. Last season he gained invaluable experience with Spanish outfit Real Unión, clocking up 27 appearances and drawing praise for his calm performances.
Speaking about his move, Munroe said he was eager to get started: “I’m really excited to join Swindon Town for the season. It’s a big club with a great fanbase and history, and I’m ready to give everything I’ve got. I want to learn, improve, and help the team push towards the top end of the table.
“I spoke with the Manager and felt a real sense of belief in what the club is building. There’s a clear plan here, and I’m grateful to be part of it. I can’t wait to get going, meet the lads, and play in front of the supporters.”
Munroe becomes the Robins’ eighth signing of the summer and will wear the number 26 shirt. As pre‑season edges closer, the anticipation among Town fans is building, with many keen to see the young defender in action and watch how he fits into a squad clearly being moulded with ambition.
