It is looking increasingly likely that the current League One and League Two football seasons are going to be axed next week – and Swindon Town would be promoted to League One as champions should the Football League impose a ‘weighted points per game’ scenario as expected.

Sports paper, The Athletic have this weekend released a detailed report that claims the EFL will tell clubs in League One and Two ‘there is no chance of playing any more games this season and ask them to vote on a method to decide promotion and relegation.’
It is understood that Rick Parry, EFL Chairman, has told MP’s on the Digital, Culture, Media and Sport select committee that a decision should be made as earl as Monday or Tuesday next week.
How the weighted tables are worked out
The points per game for each club at home and away would be been worked out (points divided by number of games played) and then multiplied by the total number of games that should be played this season – 23 in League Two.
The expected totals for home and away are then added together to give a total.
With Swindon’s average points per game at home 2.158 and 1.647 – third highest in the league home and away – the Robins would be promoted as champions with a total of 87.51 points with Crewe second (85.34), Plymouth third (84.13) and Cheltenham fourth (81.78).
