Amanda Hickling, a 61-year-old woman from Cherhill, has been jailed after being caught driving while disqualified and without insurance, despite already having 36 points on her driving licence.
Hickling, who had been disqualified from driving until April 2026, was spotted by an on-duty Roads Policing officer on Friday, 21st February, driving her Nissan Qashqai on the A4361 at Broad Hinton. An automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) check revealed that she had accumulated 24 penalty points and had no insurance on her vehicle.
After being arrested, Hickling was charged with driving while disqualified and without third-party insurance. She appeared at Swindon Magistrates’ Court the following day, where she pleaded guilty. Hickling was sentenced to 10 weeks in prison and disqualified from driving for an additional 18 months, bringing her total points to 36.
This incident came only a month after Hickling had been jailed for a similar offence. On 7th January, she was caught driving on Westbrook Road in Calne, leading to a four-week prison sentence.
PC Oliver Venton stated: “Hickling showed a blatant disregard for the law when she chose to drive her car, knowing she had recently gone to prison for the same offence. She insisted she had only ‘pushed her luck’ to go to the shop, claiming she was taking the driving ban seriously.”
