A woman convicted of making hundreds of child sexual abuse images has been sent to prison after breaching a court order intended to prevent further offending.
Samantha Franklin, 35, of Cove House Gardens in Ashton Keynes, was jailed after appearing before Swindon Magistrates’ Court on January 14, having admitted five breaches of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
Franklin had been handed a suspended prison sentence on December 8 alongside a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order, imposed following her guilty plea to producing a large number of illegal images involving children.
Despite the restrictions placed upon her, Franklin was arrested again on January 13 after police discovered she had breached the order on five separate occasions, only days after it came into force.
Magistrates sentenced her to 50 weeks in prison and ordered her to pay a £187 surcharge.
Speaking after the hearing, Detective Constable Jason Walsh, from the Child Internet Exploitation Team, said Franklin’s continued offending left the court with little option.
“I am really pleased that Franklin has been given a prison sentence,” he said. “She continued to offend after being sentenced in December by breaching the terms of her Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
“She has shown a complete disregard for the court system and appears to have underestimated the seriousness of both her offences and the order imposed upon her.
“I hope she uses her time in custody to reflect on the crimes she has committed. There is no place in society for individuals who behave in this way.”
