Barratt David Wilson Homes South West has donated £1,500 to the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association (SSAFA), marking the second time the housebuilder has contributed to the organisation’s vital work to aid Wiltshire’s service members, veterans and their families.
The donation will help fund SSAFA’s Wiltshire branch, service committees, and specialist support services. Jenny King, Head of Corporate Engagement at SSAFA, highlighted the significance of this support: “Donations like these are crucial, allowing us to continue providing personal support to members of the Armed Forces community who are facing life’s toughest challenges.”
With the current economic climate placing additional strain on service families, SSAFA’s trained welfare advisors and volunteers are working harder than ever to tailor support to those in need. “The cost-of-living crisis is affecting families nationwide, but for service members and veterans, the impact can be even greater,” added Jenny. “As a charity that depends on donations, contributions from businesses like Barratt David Wilson Homes South West make a real difference.”
Louise Ware, sales director for Barratt David Wilson Homes South West, commented: “We’re proud to support SSAFA’s invaluable work and to help make a positive difference in the lives of Armed Forces personnel and their families.”
Barratt David Wilson Homes South West is currently building at Buckley Gardens on Semington Road, a development featuring 144 two, three, four, and five-bedroom homes, including 43 affordable properties available through rent and shared ownership schemes.
The company is also working alongside Barratt Homes and Swindon Borough Council to develop Wichelstowe, one of the largest local authority joint ventures in the country. Over the next 20 years, the ambitious project will deliver 3,000 homes, schools, community facilities, and extensive green spaces on the southern edge of Swindon.
SSAFA is gearing up for an exciting year of fundraising activities in 2025, including the SSAFA 13 Bridges Challenge, the London Marathon, and the Kiltwalks. Additionally, the organisation is celebrating its 140th anniversary alongside the 80th anniversaries of V-E and V-J Days. Another key event, the Fire and Ice Challenge in March, will see four ex-military personnel take on Sweden’s frozen landscape in a gruelling endurance test.
