Barratt David Wilson Homes South West has raised an astonishing £56,297.37 for its charity partner, Star Scheme. This is the highest amount the team has ever raised for a charitable cause, surpassing their original target of £40,000 by a significant margin.
Star Scheme, a South West charity, supports children in poverty or facing mental health issues, particularly those who have experienced Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and other hardships. The charity was conceived at Chew Valley RFC in 2020 and has since been committed to making a positive impact through rugby.
Funds were raised over the past year through a range of activities and events. Staff, contractors, and the local community contributed to this impressive total through a gala dinner, participation in the Bristol 10k, show home furniture sales, bake sales, and raffles.
The charity’s mission is to improve the lives of young people through rugby. Support includes essential training and match kits, transportation, club subscriptions, tour costs for players and their parents, and nutritional meals post-match and training. Beyond the pitch, the initiative also focuses on training club coaches and providing one-on-one coaching when necessary, underlining its commitment to nurturing players and embedding the rugby club within the community.
Dan Wooler, Founder and Chair of Trustees at Star Scheme, expressed his gratitude: “We’re overwhelmed with the support we’ve received from Barratt David Wilson Homes South West over the past 12 months. This huge donation will make a tremendous difference in our ability to provide crucial services to the vulnerable young people we support.”
Louise Ware, Sales Director for Barratt David Wilson Homes South West, echoed this sentiment: “We’re incredibly proud of everyone who has contributed to this fantastic achievement. Raising more than £56,000 for Star Scheme is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our team and the generosity of our community. It has been our pleasure to support such a worthy cause over the past year which will have a positive impact on the lives of those in need.”
In addition to their charitable efforts, Barratt David Wilson Homes South West has launched the Buckley Gardens development in Semington, near the A350. This new development features 144 properties ranging from two to five bedrooms, plus 43 affordable homes in partnership with Heylo, a registered social provider. Show homes are now available for viewing without the need for an appointment.
Buckley Gardens, located close to the Kennet & Avon Canal, will be surrounded by seven acres of open space, new ponds, a play area, and more than 100 new trees. The development is within walking distance of local pubs and cafes, with Melksham town centre just a five-minute drive away.
