A Wiltshire business that has spent almost 30 years helping organisations dispose of unwanted IT equipment securely and sustainably has reached another major milestone after becoming a Certified B Corporation.
Blackmore UK, which specialises in secure IT asset disposal and data destruction, has officially joined the growing international community of businesses that meet independently assessed standards for social and environmental responsibility, transparency and accountability.
The certification follows a detailed assessment process that began in September 2025 and reflects the way the company has operated since it was established in 1996.
For founder Simon Barfoot, the achievement is less about changing direction and more about recognising a business philosophy that has been in place from the very beginning.
Rather than viewing outdated computers and other technology as waste, Blackmore UK has built its reputation on giving equipment a second life wherever possible. Devices that can no longer be reused are responsibly recycled, while sensitive data is securely destroyed through certified processes.
The company says this approach not only protects customers’ information but also helps organisations reduce waste and meet their own environmental and social objectives without creating additional costs or operational pressures.
Every year, Blackmore UK collects and processes more than 106,000 IT assets that might otherwise have ended up in landfill. By refurbishing and reusing equipment instead of replacing it with new devices, the company estimates it prevented more than 8,200 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions during 2025. According to the business, that figure is around 28 times greater than its own operational carbon footprint.
Alongside its environmental work, Blackmore UK operates under internationally recognised ISO 14001 and ISO 27001 standards, ensuring data is securely sanitised and handled in line with GDPR requirements.
Simon Barfoot said becoming a Certified B Corporation reflects the values that have shaped the company for decades.
He said: “Blackmore UK has never been about simply disposing of IT. Since the business was founded, there has always been a belief that if technology still has value, it should be securely reused. If it cannot be reused, it should be responsibly recycled.
“Achieving B Corp Certification is something the whole team is incredibly proud of because it recognises principles that have been part of the business from the very start. It confirms that looking after customers, supporting colleagues and reducing environmental impact are not separate initiatives – they are simply part of how the company operates every day.

B Corp Certification is awarded by the non-profit organisation B Lab and is recognised internationally as one of the leading standards for businesses seeking to balance commercial success with wider social and environmental responsibility.
