Wiltshire Council and Wiltshire Wildlife Trust Collaborate to Launch Men’s Wellbeing Programme

In a bid to promote mental and physical wellbeing among men aged 20-59, Wiltshire Council has partnered with Wiltshire Wildlife Trust to introduce a new and inclusive wellbeing programme.

This free initiative aims to enhance wellbeing through nature-based activities and physical exercise while fostering strong social connections among participants. Tailored sessions will be developed based on the interests and preferences of attendees, offering a diverse range of activities such as hiking, woodwork, and bushcraft skills. Additionally, participants will have the opportunity to learn stress management and mindfulness techniques to support their overall mental health.

The inaugural programme will kick off on 19th February in Salisbury, spanning a duration of 12 weeks. Plans are underway to roll out similar wellbeing programmes later in the year in Trowbridge and Chippenham, ensuring accessibility across different regions of Wiltshire.

Cllr Ian Blair-Pilling, Cabinet Member for Public Health, underscored the significance of this collaborative effort, stating, “This partnership with Wiltshire Wildlife Trust is very important. The programme will equip men with the knowledge and practical tools necessary to enhance their mental wellbeing.

“Participants can engage in enjoyable activities while acquiring new skills and discovering the benefits of spending time outdoors. Access to wellbeing techniques and guidance will facilitate positive behavioural changes, benefiting individuals who may be facing challenges.”

Damian Haasjes, Director of Education and Wellbeing at Wiltshire Wildlife Trust, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership’s potential impact on men’s mental health across the county. He remarked, “Wiltshire Wildlife Trust is thrilled to collaborate with Wiltshire Council’s Public Health Team in supporting men’s mental health. We have witnessed firsthand the positive effects of connecting with nature on mental wellbeing.

“The new outdoor men’s wellbeing programme builds upon our existing work and provides an excellent opportunity for early support and intervention for men experiencing mental health difficulties.”
