Back in June it was reported that bookmakers had already started paying out on Liverpool to be crowned as Premier League champions, although this was before the Covid-19 pandemic out pay to the football season as we all know it.
With the English Football League Two clubs voting last week to prematurely end the 2019/20 season with Swindon Town likely to be named as champions next week once the decision has been ratified by both the league and the English FA, where does it leave the many town fans who had place a bet on the outcome of this season?
Surely the bookies will be paying out on the final outcome, or will they just void all bets and return the original stake?
We reached out to Ladbrokes, one of the UK’s biggest bookmakers to see what they thought.
“We await the official announcement from the football league on how they intend to conclude the 2019/20 League Two season, which I believe will be later this week.
“Then we will be able to announce how we intend to settle ante post bets placed on the league, give the unique circumstances.”
