Wilko is set to make a triumphant return to the High Streets as the new owners, CDS Superstores, announced plans to open five new stores before the festive season.
The parent company of The Range, CDS Superstores, snapped up Wilko’s name and website following the discount chain’s administration.
The initial phase of this reopening will see the launch of two standalone Wilko “concept stores” in Plymouth and Exeter. The rest of the locations will be confirmed at a later date.
This development comes just weeks after Wilko concluded the closure of its remaining of its once 400 stores, resulting in the redundancy of almost all 12,500 workers.
The acquisition of Wilko’s brand, website, and intellectual property by The Range cost £5 million.
Alex Simpkin, chief executive of The Range, said:”The public reaction to the loss of Wilko stores was undeniable.
“It’s clear that there’s a huge love for Wilko and we’ve seen an encouraging demand for the return of its own-brand products.
“That’s why we’ve taken the decision to reintroduce Wilko back to many of the high streets and communities that it used to so proudly serve.”
