Apparently many of us have been keeping eggs in the wrong place in our fridge all along.
Most fridges come with handy little racks for storing your eggs in the door, however, it has been said that eggs should not actually be stored in the fridge door.
It turns out that the temperature in that part of the fridge is not right for eggs at all, according to Sara Benwell, Consumer Editor for Good Housekeeping.
She explained: “Not only is the door the warmest part of the fridge, it’s also the most susceptible to temperature fluctuations.
“Eggs are best when stored at a consistent temperature, so we recommend keeping them in the fridge on the middle shelf.”
The British Egg Information Service says eggs should be stored below 20°C (68°F) and temperature fluctuations should be avoided.
Its guidelines state: “Try to avoid moving them too often between very cold and very warm temperatures such as between a hot car and fridge, or fridge and hot kitchen.
“The best practice is to store eggs in the fridge – that way the temperature is always at a constant and your eggs will be fresher.”
