Next week marks the start of a lively month in Swindon’s town centre, with Wharf Green preparing to welcome a packed line‑up of free activities for families throughout August.
Backed by funding from Swindon Borough Council and helped by local businesses, the square will become a focal point for summer entertainment. From outdoor cinema evenings under the night sky to an immersive planetarium experience, there will be something for visitors of all ages.
Each weekend will follow a different theme, with a headline attraction leading the way. Food stalls and related activities will add to the atmosphere, creating a sense of occasion each time. Midweek, Wednesdays will offer interactive sessions such as circus skills, hands‑on art workshops and other opportunities for children to try something new.
Even when no formal events are taking place, the pop‑up park on site will remain open for anyone to enjoy a relaxed moment in the heart of the town.

Creative Arts Weekend – Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 August
Circus School – Wednesday 6 August
Sports Weekend – Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 August
Wheelie Wednesday – Wednesday 13 August
Outdoor Cinema – Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 August
Art Workshop and Garden Party – Wednesday 20 August
Planetarium – Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 August
Live Music Finale – Monday 25 August
All events are free to attend, though some may be subject to availability and weather on the day. Activities will run between 11am and 5pm.
Councillor Marina Strinkovsky, Swindon Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Placemaking and Planning, said the programme offered plenty for families: “The Summer at the Green events are almost here, and it’s shaping up to be a great month for the children – and the adults – of Swindon. There will be workshops, arts and crafts to get stuck in to, as well as the planetarium and outdoor cinema for everyone to enjoy. With activities every weekend and on Wednesdays, there’s a good mix for families across the school holidays.”
The month is being supported by organisations including Fandangos, ATB Shop, British Cycling, Swindon Dance, Create Studios, Artsite, National Trust, English Heritage and Historic England.
