Volvo Cars Swindon Drives Towards an Electric Future with New Model Names

Volvo Cars Swindon on Great Western Hill has announced a significant milestone in its journey towards an all-electric future. As part of Volvo Cars’ broader strategy to become a fully electric car brand by 2030, two of its most popular models have been renamed. The electric C40 Recharge and XC40 Recharge will now be known as the EC40 and EX40, respectively.

This renaming aligns these models with Volvo’s other fully electric vehicles, such as the EX30 and EX90 SUVs, signifying a cohesive shift towards a greener automotive future.

In addition to the name changes, the EC40 and EX40 now feature new battery and electric motor options, offering Swindon drivers enhanced travel capabilities. The EC40 boasts a range of up to 346 miles, while the EX40 can travel up to 343 miles on a single charge. These models now come with a 78kWh battery and a 252hp electric motor in the Single Motor Extended Range versions, ensuring longer journeys and a more robust driving experience.

Charging these new batteries is swift and efficient, with a maximum charging speed of 140kW. Moreover, for those seeking a boost in performance, an optional Performance software upgrade is available. This upgrade increases the maximum output in the EC40 and EX40 Twin Motor versions from 408hp to an impressive 442hp, providing quicker acceleration and an enhanced driving dynamic through revised pedal mapping and a new Performance mode.

Volvo is also streamlining its pricing structure for these models, offering straightforward, on-the-road prices for the EC40 and EX40 Plus and Ultra variants.

Luke Rodriguez, General Manager at Volvo Cars Swindon, shared his enthusiasm: “The future of motoring is electric and it’s fantastic to see Volvo Cars moving at pace towards its 2030 ambition to becoming a fully electric car brand.
