Swindon’s Central Library will be buzzing with activity on Thursday 14th August as Voluntary Action Swindon (VAS), the town’s own Council for Voluntary Service (CVS), invites families and residents to a Community Engagement Fun Day designed to bring local organisations and the wider public closer together.
Running from 11am to 2.30pm, the event aims to educate, inspire and connect by showcasing the brilliant work of voluntary groups and service providers in Swindon. With stalls representing a wide range of organisations—including Prospect Hospice—visitors can expect not just information, but hands-on family activities, community conversations, and a spread of refreshments to beat the summer heat.

Far from a formal exhibition, this free event offers a relaxed and engaging space where children and adults alike can discover what’s on offer in their town—from volunteering opportunities to community support services. Each stall will feature something interactive, ensuring that learning about the voluntary sector is far from dry.
The day has been made possible thanks to support from Amazon, whose backing has helped turn the idea into a fully-fledged summer event for all ages. Their continued commitment to community engagement has not gone unnoticed by organisers or attendees alike.
“After the success of our Volunteer Recruitment event in January, we knew there was appetite for more accessible, family-focused events like this,” a spokesperson from Voluntary Action Swindon said. “This time, it’s not just about recruitment—it’s about connecting residents of all ages with the services, groups and causes that shape life in Swindon.”
VAS plays a vital role behind the scenes in Swindon’s third sector, supporting other charities, encouraging collaboration, and helping local organisations flourish. This event reflects their mission to keep the voluntary sector visible, vibrant, and welcoming to all.
The Community Engagement Fun Day is open to everyone, with no booking required. Whether you’re a local looking to lend a hand, a family eager to learn more about local causes, or simply someone in search of a slice of cake and a friendly chat, the library will be the place to be.
