Rishi Sunak Hints at Autumn 2024 General Election Milestone on One-Year Anniversary in No. 10

As Rishi Sunak marks his one-year milestone in No. 10, a video shared on the Prime Minister’s official Twitter account has ignited speculation about a potential general election in Autumn 2024.

The video, captioned “We’ve achieved a lot in the year since I became PM. But be in no doubt, there’s so much more to do,” offers a rapid overview of Sunak’s policy priorities over the last 12 months.

Towards the end of the video, on-screen captions pose a tantalising question: “So what can a country achieve in 52 weeks? Watch this space.” This phraseology is being interpreted as a subtle indication that a general election may be on the horizon.

If an election has not been called by December 17th, 2024, exactly five years since parliament first convened after the 2019 general election, parliamentary dissolution would automatically occur, setting the stage for the election to unfold 25 working days later.

Consequently, the latest plausible date for the next election would be by the end of January 2025.

Reports suggest that the Labour Party is gearing up for a potential election as early as May 2024.
