Jeremy Corbyn is expected to announce that Labour will introduce four new bank holidays if the party wins the general election.
The UK currently has eight public holidays a year, the fewest of any EU country and proposals suggest the party will push forward on plans to introduce public holidays to celebrate the UK’s various patron saints.
St David’s Day, 1st March
St Patrick’s Day, 17th March
St George’s Day, 23rd April
St Andrew’s Day, 30th November
Speaking on St George’s Day to announce the policy, Mr Corbyn is said: “After seven years of painful austerity, our workers deserve a break, under a Labour government, they will have the opportunity of four more days off a year.
“The four nations that make up our great country have rarely been more divided due to the damaging and divisive policies of this Conservative government.”
A Conservative spokesperson speaking to Sky News said “The British economy would be on permanent holiday if Corbyn got near Downing Street”.
