Krispy Kreme is changing its name in the UK…because we can’t say it right

Krispy Kreme is having to change its name in the UK, because Brits just can’t seem to say it right.

The doughnut company has been trading in Great Britain for more than 14 years and apparently people still don’t know whether it’s pronounced as ‘cream’ or the French-sounding ‘crème’.

Social media is also a problem for the chain and according to Krispy Kreme there have been more than 30,000 tagged posts on Facebook and Twitter with its name spelt wrong in just the last two years

Because of this, in a move which distances the UK franchise from its US counterpart, company bosses have decided to simplify things for us by re-branding in the UK as Krispy Cream.

Charlotte Roberts, head of Marketing, explained it was a choice that wasn’t taken lightly saying “The company re-brand is a strategic decision made in acknowledgement that our UK customers have struggled with the pronunciation of ‘Kreme’ (said ‘cream’) since our launch into the UK in 2003.

“We hope that the re-brand will settle any confusion as to both the pronunciation and spelling of the name for our customers.

“We want to reassure our loyal fans that the quality of our doughnuts will remain of the highest standard and in line with original recipe that our founder Vernon Rudolph made famous almost 80 years ago.”

There you have it, from now there can be no confusion, it is Krispy Cream!
