In the midst of a national shortage of NHS dental services, two dental practices in Swindon, are defying the odds by extending their services to new patients under the NHS.
According to recent data released by the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC), these practices are part of a positive trend emerging across England.
The DHSC took to social media to proudly announce the success of their dental recovery plan, which aims to make accessing NHS dentists easier for the public. The latest figures indicate that nearly 500 more practices across England, including those in the South West and East of England, are now open to new adult patients compared to earlier this year.
This welcome news comes at a time when data from 2022 revealed that almost nine in 10 NHS dental practices were unable to accommodate new adult patients for treatment, highlighting the severity of the issue.
Among the Swindon practices reportedly offering NHS appointments are Eurodental, located on Bath Road in Old Town, and mydentist on Cricklade Road. These practices, along with Wootton Bassett Dental Care, which is also part of mydentist at Borough Fields Shopping Centre, are listed as accepting new patients according to the NHS Find a Dentist website as of April 8th, 2024.
Eurodental, situated at 45 Bath Road, Old Town, Swindon, can be contacted on 01793 617982, while mydentist, located at 93-97 Cricklade Road, Gorse Hill, Swindon, can be reached on 01793 640183.
The positive development in Swindon aligns with the £200 million Government dental plan, which incentivises dentists to accept new patients by offering financial incentives, including £20,000 “golden hellos” for practitioners willing to serve under-served communities.
