Two men have been arrested on suspicion of drugs offences after being apprehended during proactive police patrols in Swindon on the evening of 19th September.
Officers patrolling the Gorse Hill area near St Marks Park spotted three men acting suspiciously in the bushes, prompting further investigation.
Upon noticing the police vehicle, the trio attempted to flee, leading to a short pursuit. Two of the men, aged 20 and 18, were quickly detained and searched under the Misuse of Drugs Act. Officers discovered several hundred pounds in cash on each individual, along with a quantity of cannabis.
Both men were arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of Class B drugs and were taken into custody for questioning.
Inspector Bel Martin, from the Central Swindon North, Stratton, and West Neighbourhood team, praised the collaborative efforts of the local priority tasking team and neighbourhood officers for swiftly apprehending the suspects. “This was excellent collaborative work between the local priority tasking team and the local neighbourhood team to apprehend these individuals for drugs offences,” Inspector Martin said.
She also urged the local community to continue reporting any suspicious activity, emphasising the importance of local intelligence in tackling drug-related crime. “Your reports aren’t going unheard – each one helps us build a broader picture of the situation on the ground, and we are acting upon them and getting results,” she added.
