Two individuals have been arrested following an assault on a 77-year-old man in Swindon.
The incident, which occurred on the evening of Monday 22nd July at around 9.20pm, saw the elderly man sustain a head injury after confronting a group of young people regarding their behaviour on Greenhill Road, Moredon.
Police have since confirmed that two 17-year-old boys were arrested on suspicion of Section 18 grievous bodily harm (GBH). Both have been released under strict bail conditions as enquiries continue.
Swindon Chief Inspector Carly Nesbitt stated that there would be increased patrols in the Greenhill Road area in the upcoming weeks. “In response to a number of reports of anti-social behaviour in the Greenhill Road area, we will have an increased policing presence and would urge any residents who may have concerns to speak with our officers when out and about,” she said.
Chief Inspector Nesbitt reassured the community, saying, “This particular incident will no doubt have caused concern within the community – please be reassured that we take reports of this nature seriously and our enquiries are ongoing. We’d like to thank the members of the community who responded to our initial appeal for information – this significantly helped us progress our enquiries and make these two arrests.”
The victim has since been released from hospital and is recovering from his injuries.
