Two Arrested After Late-Night Car Chase Ends in Swindon Crash

Two men have been arrested following a high-speed police pursuit that ended with a dramatic crash in Swindon on Friday night (14 February).

The incident began at around 11.30pm when a black BMW X5 failed to stop for officers on Great Western Way. Police authorised a pursuit, with the vehicle speeding through Cheney Manor before heading towards the Penhill area.

The chase came to a sudden halt when the BMW collided with a parked car on Duchess Way, causing it to overturn. Emergency services swiftly arrived at the scene, and two men, aged 31 and 27, were arrested.

The 31-year-old man was taken into custody on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop, driving without a licence or valid insurance, and theft. The 27-year-old was arrested on suspicion of driving without insurance, driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence, and drug driving. Both have since been released on bail while investigations continue.

Two passengers, women in their 20s and 30s, were taken to hospital for treatment following the crash. Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Tragically, two dogs that were in the vehicle fled the scene. One of the dogs was hit by a passing car on the A419 and died at the scene.

The police have appealed for witnesses or anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
