The Government are seeking a producer for a multi-million-pound contract for the ‘design, production and personalisation of the UK passport’ after 2019.
Up until 1988, British people were travelling with blue passports but this was replaced by the burgundy-coloured format after Britain joined the EU.
The current contract to produce the burgundy passport expires in 2019, when the UK is set to officially leave the European Union with hopes that the old blue version, used by some up until 1988 will be available.
