Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander visits GRIDSERVE Innovation Centre in Swindon

Heidi Alexander MP, Secretary of State for Transport and Member of Parliament for Swindon South, has visited GRIDSERVE’s first-of-its-kind Innovation and Operations Centre in her constituency to see first-hand how the company develops and maintains its award-winning electric vehicle (EV) charging network.

GRIDSERVE has been at the forefront of the UK’s EV revolution, installing High Power charging stations on the country’s busiest roads and motorways. With more than 1,500 charging bays across over 200 locations, the company is a key partner in accelerating the transition to zero-emission vehicles.

During her tour, Ms Alexander met GRIDSERVE’s engineering and operations teams and learned about the company’s pioneering approach to high-power charging infrastructure. The Swindon facility serves as the technical hub for the nationwide network, where teams conduct thousands of hours of functionality and interoperability testing.

Heidi Alexander said:

“It’s fantastic to see a company like GRIDSERVE, based here in Swindon, leading the way on electric vehicle infrastructure. The work being done at this Innovation and Operations Centre shows how businesses in our local community are helping to deliver the reliable, high-quality charging network we need across the country. As both Transport Secretary and the MP for Swindon South, I’m proud that Swindon is playing such an important role in the UK’s transition to zero-emission vehicles.”

Daniel Kunkel, CEO of GRIDSERVE, added:

“We are delighted to have Ms Alexander as our local MP and to welcome the Transport Secretary to our Swindon facility. Her visit underscores the important role that reliable charging infrastructure plays in the UK’s transition to electric transport. Our team here in Swindon is proud to be developing the technology and maintaining the standards that keep drivers moving freely across the country.”

GRIDSERVE was the UK’s first charge point operator to open a dedicated EV charging test lab, ensuring it continues to provide the most reliable service of any nationwide network while innovating to improve the driver experience.

The Swindon site has hosted a wide variety of vehicles – from cars and motorcycles to trucks and pre-production prototypes – while also testing charger hardware, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and software to deliver continuous improvements.

With its Electric Forecourts® and UK-wide network of Super Hubs – some with up to 36 charging bays – GRIDSERVE is on a mission to make EVs easy and give drivers the freedom to travel electric.
