Swindon Town Football Club has this afternoon confirmed the acquisition of defender Conor McCarthy from Barnsley on a season-long loan, pending EFL approval.
The 25-year-old started his professional journey with Cork City, where he enjoyed three fruitful seasons. His outstanding performances earned him a move to the Scottish Premiership side St. Mirren, where he spent two successful years before joining his current club, Barnsley FC, in 2022.
McCarthy’s impactful tenure at Cork City saw him make over 60 appearances, netting six goals and showcasing his skills in both the Europa and UEFA Champions League competitions.
Upon moving to the Scottish Premiership with St. Mirren, the central defender continued to impress, amassing nearly 70 appearances and scoring two goals during his time with the club.
In addition to his club achievements, McCarthy has also made notable contributions on the international stage, representing the Republic of Ireland at both U18 and U21 levels.
McCarthy has also made several appearances at League One level with Barnsley.
