Swindon Town football club have today announced that two fans who invaded the pitch during the second half of our League Two fixture at home to Newport County last week with bans until the end of the current season.

The pair, who cannot be named for legal reasons, ran into the pitch with five minutes left of the game, forcing the referee to stop the game until they were removed by stewards.

The two fans have now been issued with bans from The County Ground until the end of the current season, in line with EFL guidance.

Speaking to the official club website Town Chief Executive, Rob Angus, said: “Following the incident during our last home game, we have taken the necessary action to ban the two individuals involved, working alongside the EFL to ensure we take the hardest line of action we can.

“This type of behaviour by so-called ‘fans’ will not be tolerated here at The County Ground, as it puts our players, match officials and others at risk.

“I’d like to take this opportunity to remind anyone attending a fixture at SN1 that it’s a criminal offence to enter the pitch without lawful excuse, and offenders will be reported to the police and prosecuted.

“The football club will continue working with the EFL to ensure our stadium is the safest it can possibly be on a matchday and that this type of behaviour is stamped out.

“The support and atmosphere you, our supporters, create every time you attend a County Ground fixture is fantastic, but the safety of everyone is our priority at all times, and this includes players and officials.”
