Thousands of Pounds of Illicit Vapes and Tobacco Seized in Multi-Agency Operation

This week, a significant operation in the Broad Green area led to the seizure of thousands of pounds worth of illicit vapes and tobacco from a single store.

On Wednesday 22nd May, officers from Swindon Central South Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT), supported by other neighbourhood officers and partners in Immigration and Trading Standards, visited retail premises Zabka Polski Sklep on Manchester Road.

During the operation, illicit vapes and tobacco with an estimated resale value exceeding £30,000 were confiscated from the store and another linked location. Additionally, a vehicle connected to the illicit trade was also seized.

Two individuals were arrested and have since been bailed pending further enquiries and a closure order has been obtained for the premises, preventing it from reopening for at least three months.

Temporary Inspector Winter commented, “The sale of such products brings anti-social behaviour and crime to the area. The products themselves are often unchecked and can contain harmful materials and chemicals, posing health risks to users.

“Such vapes are frequently used in the exploitation of children, and we are determined to clamp down on this type of illicit trading. There is also a broader economic impact on local retailers who are operating within the law.”

This operation was part of Clear Hold Build – a multi-agency initiative in Broadgreen aiming to tackle organised crime and strengthen community ties.
