Swindonians Unite for Charity Football Match at County Ground

A spirit of camaraderie and community pride will be on full display at Swindon Town’s County Ground on Wednesday, May 15th, as a group of local football enthusiasts lace up their boots for a special cause.

What began as a weekly gathering of Swindonians, meeting every Thursday and Sunday in Abbeymeads to enjoy a friendly game of football, has evolved into something much greater, a charity match in aid of Alternative Angels, a local charity dedicated to making a difference in the Swindon community.

The idea initially sprung from a desire to add a bit of fun at the end of Swindon Town’s current League Two campaign. However, as enthusiasm for the event grew, so too did the opportunity to raise funds for a worthy cause.

To ensure the success of the fundraising effort, players have generously contributed to participate, and several local businesses have rallied behind the cause by sponsoring the kit for the game.

Shaun Jones, a regular player with the group and representative of Swindon Travel Hub, who are one of the kit sponsors said: “It started out as a bit of fun, which it still will be, but it is now also raising funds for a great cause. A massive thanks to James at the club for allowing us to play on the pitch.”

Among the sponsors is Vincent James Clinics, whose Osteopathic Clinic may be very busy after the match and whose support underscores the local business community’s commitment to supporting charitable endeavors within Swindon. Additionally, MCFT has lent their support, with a spokesperson expressing their enthusiasm for contributing to a cause that has provided invaluable support to the Swindon community.

“When we learned that one of the MCFT team was involved with a local charity football match, we were excited to support,” the spokesperson stated. “This was a fantastic opportunity for us to contribute to a worthy local cause, Alternative Angels, which has provided so much support to the Swindon community.”

The community lies at the heart of MCFT’s ethos, with a dedication to supporting local causes and communities both domestically and internationally. Their involvement in the charity match reflects their commitment to making a positive impact where it’s needed most.

As the Abbeymeads regulars take to the pitch at Swindon Town’s iconic County Ground, they do so not only in pursuit of a victory among friends but also in solidarity with Alternative Angels and the Swindon community at large. It’s a testament to the power of sport and community spirit to effect meaningful change, one kick at a time.
