On Thursday, 24th April 2025, the Nelson Trust’s Swindon Women’s Centre will host a night walk in remembrance of the 95 women and girls killed by male violence across the UK in 2024. The walk, which will take place from 7pm to 9pm, will be a solemn occasion to honour the victims and offer support to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and abuse.
The Nelson Trust, a charity supporting individuals affected by substance use and other unmet needs such as domestic violence and involvement with the criminal justice system, has a longstanding commitment to helping those impacted by male violence. The Swindon Women’s Centre, one of the organisation’s dedicated facilities, offers a safe haven and support services for women affected by domestic abuse.
The event will begin at Victoria Road, where participants will walk to Queen’s Park for a two-minute silence, during which they will remember the 95 victims of male violence. This moment of reflection will be followed by an opportunity for the public to learn about the support services available in the county. Attendees will also hear from members of the Nelson Trust team, many of whom have lived experience, and receive free harm reduction resources.
The walk aims to show solidarity with victims and survivors, as well as raise awareness about the vital services available to those who need support. The Nelson Trust encourages all attendees to be respectful and mindful of their surroundings, ensuring the event remains dignified and focused on remembrance.
Alexandra from the Nelson Trust shared,*
“This walk offers the opportunity not only to pay tribute to the women and girls lost but also to remind survivors that support is available, right here in Swindon. We hope it will be a moment of reflection, empowerment, and solidarity.”
This remembrance walk is an important event for those who have been touched by male violence and those who want to show their support for change. The Nelson Trust continues to work tirelessly to create a safer environment for women in the South West, offering much-needed services to those most at risk.
