Swindon Town have bolstered their defensive ranks with the signing of centre-back Ryan Tafazolli on a one-year contract, subject to EFL approval.
The 33-year-old, who stands at an imposing 6’5″, arrives at the County Ground with a career steeped in Football League experience. Having turned out for Mansfield Town, Peterborough United and most recently Wycombe Wanderers, the new arrival brings with him over 350 professional appearances and a reputation for leadership and strength at the heart of defence.
During his four seasons at Wycombe, Tafazolli was a key figure in their rise to the Championship in 2020, featuring regularly in both the second and third tiers thereafter. Twice named in the PFA League Two Team of the Year, his pedigree is clear, and Swindon supporters will be hoping he can add authority to a back line that has been reshaped significantly over the summer.
Speaking after his signing, Tafazolli shared his enthusiasm for the challenge ahead: “I’m really pleased to be joining Swindon Town at this stage of my career. This is a club with huge potential and passionate supporters, and I want to play my part in helping the team achieve success this season. I feel ready to bring my experience to the squad, support the younger players, and give everything for the badge.”
He added: “After speaking with the Manager, it was clear there’s an exciting project here. I’m looking forward to getting started, working hard on the pitch, and hopefully giving the fans plenty to cheer about.”
Tafazolli becomes Swindon’s twelfth signing of the summer as preparations continue for the 2025/26 League Two campaign. With his aerial dominance and presence in the dressing room, Town will be hopeful his arrival provides both stability and inspiration.
