Swindon Town Secure the Signing of Experienced Goalkeeper Connor Ripley

Swindon Town have confirmed the signing of goalkeeper Connor Ripley from Port Vale, subject to EFL approval. The 31-year-old joins on a deal until the end of the season, bringing a wealth of experience with over 300 appearances across the Championship, League One, and League Two.

Ripley began his career at Blackburn Rovers before moving to Middlesbrough in 2009 on a two-year scholarship. He signed his first professional contract in 2011 and spent eight years at the Riverside, gaining valuable experience on loan at clubs including Swedish side Östersunds FK, Motherwell, and Oldham, where he became the first-choice goalkeeper.

Following further loan spells with Bury, Burton Albion, Accrington Stanley, and Salford City, Ripley secured a permanent move to Preston North End. In 2022, he joined Morecambe, where his leadership qualities earned him the captain’s armband under manager Derek Adams. His performances saw him win the EFL League One Player of the Month award and be named Morecambe’s Player of the Year for the 2022/23 season.

Since departing Morecambe, Ripley has been a key figure at Port Vale, making 69 consecutive starts and earning a nomination for October’s EFL League Two Player of the Month. His standout performances also saw him feature in the EFL Team of the Week after keeping a clean sheet at Bromley in December.

Speaking about his move to Swindon Town, Ripley said: “It feels amazing. The move came about quickly, and I travelled straight down today to complete my medical. After speaking with Ian, it was a straightforward decision—he’s someone I can relate to, and he’s a manager I really want to work with.”

With Ripley’s wealth of experience, Swindon Town will be hoping he provides stability and leadership between the sticks as they push for a strong finish to the season.
