Swindon Town is gearing up for an eco-friendly showdown against Salford City this weekend, marking the debut of the Pledgeball initiative for the 2023/24 season.
Pledgeball is a research-backed charity that supports sports bodies to engage fans on environmental sustainability and climate change. Working with clubs, County FAs and leagues across the UK to the Football Supporters’ Association, Pledgeball effectively mobilises fans and players to make pro-environmental choices, reducing emissions on game day and beyond.
Joining is simple: choose your club, make a pledge, and spread the word. The more points you score, the higher the club’s chances to win the Green Football Cup! There are also some amazing prizes up for grabs for supporters, so make sure you register yourselves today! For your chance to WIN, click here.
The more fixtures you pledge allegiance to in support of Swindon Town, the greater your chances in the prize draw.
Town Fans wield the power to effect significant change:
- If an entire County Ground’s worth of fans were to simply slash their meat consumption by 50%, it would save the same amount of emissions as taking over 1500 cars off the road.
- Similarly, if an entire County Ground’s worth of fans were to transition to using public transport instead of driving, it would be akin to removing over 3100 cars from the road.
The potential impact is monumental, not solely through emission reduction, but also through the ripple effect it generates among friends, family and beyond.
Katie Cross, CEO of Pledgeball, commented, “It has been a pleasure to work so far with both the club and supporters – the mutual ambition to come together to drive change as the Robins is incredible and unique.
“Clearly, the club and its community have huge potential to drive change, both locally and to set a precedent across football. We are delighted to be working with Swindon Town and its wonderful community.”
