For most 16-year-olds, the summer holidays after GCSEs are a time for well-deserved rest. Not so for Swindon’s Bella Fisher, who is busy fundraising for an extraordinary trip to Ecuador next summer. Bella, a former student of Abbey Park School, is determined to raise £4,500 to join the Camps International Expedition in July 2025. Her ambitious goal has received a significant boost, thanks to a sponsorship deal from intelligent parking company Metric Group.
The expedition will take Bella on a four-week journey through the Amazon Rainforest, where she will take part in a range of projects aimed at supporting local communities and protecting the environment. These include constructing recreational areas, improving school infrastructure, and tackling waste through beach clean-ups and rubbish management initiatives. A highlight of the trip will be her involvement in the Amazon Rainforest Regeneration programme, where Bella will witness the devastating impact of deforestation and contribute to replanting efforts.
Currently planning to study A Levels in Biology, Chemistry, and Maths at Cirencester College, Bella is passionate about wildlife biology and sees this expedition as an ideal opportunity to gain hands-on experience. “When Camps International visited my school and talked about the expedition, I knew it was something I wanted to be part of,” Bella said. “I’m looking forward to seeing different species and habitats firsthand and getting to experience something completely different.”
Bella’s fundraising efforts have been impressive. She recently climbed Snowdon, reaching its summit at 1,085 metres, as part of her campaign to raise the funds. Her commitment has been matched by support from her family and friends, and now by Metric Group, where her mum, Lisa Harvey, has worked for the past 18 years.
Lisa expressed her pride in Bella’s determination. “Metric Group has always been fantastic at supporting its staff and local causes, so I’m thrilled they are backing Bella in this way. The total cost of the trip is £5,000, and we’ve already covered some of it, along with the vaccines and equipment she’ll need. I’m so proud of Bella for working so hard to fund this herself. The trek up Snowdon was definitely a challenge for the whole family, but we’re all behind her every step of the way.”
Metric Group, headquartered at Westmead Industrial Estate, is known for its cutting-edge design and implementation of parking terminals, transport infrastructure, and electric vehicle charging solutions. The company’s support is a testament to its commitment to community initiatives and the development of future talent like Bella.
