A total of 340 Easter eggs have been donated to two Swindon charities working with victims of domestic abuse, thanks to the kindness of pupils and staff from The Park Academies Trust.
The heartwarming haul was gathered across several of Swindon’s schools, with Abbey Park, The Deanery, and Highworth Warneford secondary schools teaming up with Red Oaks, Orchid Vale, Bridlewood, and Kingfisher primary schools for the collection.
These chocolatey treats were shared between Society Without Abuse (formerly Swindon Women’s Aid) and Jenni’s House Refuge, part of Swindon Domestic Abuse Support (Paragon Group), to be distributed among families currently living in refuge accommodation, as well as others being supported out in the community.
The collection effort at Abbey Park was overseen by teacher Alexandra O’Brien and librarian Nikki Bowie, who both helped coordinate and pack the donations.
Speaking about the initiative, Miss O’Brien said:
“It’s heartwarming to see just how many Easter eggs, sweets and gifts the very generous students and staff have donated. It makes such a huge difference to those families who have been dealing with very tough situations to know that someone cares and wants them to have a wonderful Easter.”
She added that both charities were “delighted” by the donations and grateful for the kindness shown by everyone involved.
