A unique cross code rugby match has been arranged in aid of Swindon St George Rugby League ‘Legendary’ player and former chairman Richard White who has recently undergone major surgery for cancer.
The surgery could leave Richard, affectionately known as ‘Troll’ with a recuperation period of around six months and with a young family to support, this promises to be a difficult time which friends at St George hope to make a little easier.
The cross code match will take place on Sunday 6th March between St George and a selection of players from local union clubs, kicking off at 2pm at Swindon Rugby Club with one half played under League rules, the other under the laws of Union.
The day will kick off with junior games and an open training session taking place from 12pm. The rugby club bar will be open throughout along with a barbecue before and after the game.
There is also planned to be an auction and raffle on the day and a Just Giving page will also be set up for those unable to make it on the day who would like to donate towards the fund-raising effort.
Richard is bowled over by the support coming in saying “I’ve received messages from loads of local clubs, both League and Union.
“To me, there is no family quite like the wider rugby family.”
“I am truly thankful to everyone that is standing beside myself and my family in what is a massively emotional time. I don’t know what lies ahead, but I do know that I will face it in true Troll fashion, face on and head down, hopefully with no sin bin!”
