Swindon plumber Sally King scoops South West crown in national awards

It’s not every day a local tradesperson finds themselves at the top of their field, but that’s exactly where Sally King now sits. The Swindon-based plumber, who runs Sally’s Pipe Dream, has been named South West winner at the The Plumber Awards 2026.

The recognition comes in the awards’ first year — and if the judges are to be believed, competition was anything but light. Entries were assessed during a full day of judging at Polypipe Building Products, with industry experts, associations and seasoned plumbers weighing up the details.

King’s submission stood out for its mix of technical know-how and practical impact. Two jobs in particular caught the panel’s attention: the diagnosis and correction of a misconnected shower valve, and the replacement of a failing unvented hot water cylinder — work that restored both water pressure and compliance with current regulations.

They’re the sort of problems most homeowners would rather not think about, but when they go wrong, they matter. King’s approach, by her own account, is rooted in careful fault-finding and making sure the fix lasts, not just for the sake of passing an inspection, but for day-to-day reliability.

“For me, these two projects stood out because they demanded technical problem-solving,” she said. “It was about delivering real improvements for my customers’ daily lives.”

There’s also a note of quiet defiance in her win. Plumbing remains a male-dominated trade, something King is more than aware of. Her long-held line — “the best man for the job is a woman” — lands with a bit more weight now.

The regional title puts her in the running for the national award, with the final to be decided at InstallerSHOW 2026 this June at the National Exhibition Centre. Public voting is open until the end of April, with scores combined from judges, technical challenges and the public.

The awards themselves have been launched by the team behind the long-running Heating Installer Awards, aiming to shine a light on plumbers working in domestic settings — the sort of jobs that rarely attract attention unless something goes badly wrong.

For Swindon, though, this is a straightforward good news story. A local business, a tricky trade, and recognition earned the hard way — one job at a time.
