A fundraising Duck Race will take place in the village of Wroughton on May 1st from 1pm onwards. It will be the twentieth such annual Race, and all are invited.
The Race will take place in the Willow-Brook Gardens, beside Devizes Road. Parking is available at the Ellendune shopping area.
There will be a variety of stalls, open from 1.00pm. These will include tombola, produce sale, and hog roast, and tea & coffee and ice cream will also be available. The Wroughton Silver Band will be playing during the afternoon.
The races begin at 2pm, with the childrens’ race. Children can ‘sponsor’ a duck for £1. Local businesses and groups will send their decorated decoy ducks to take part in the Business Challenge Shield at 2.30pm, and the Mike Smith Memorial Race – the adults’ duck race – is at 3pm.
The final race of the day will be at 3.30pm, the free-to-enter Mike Hinder Memorial Cup. This race will be run in heats, followed by a Grand Final depending on number of entries, and who knows what will be entered this year! The challenge is to design & build something that will float (any materials may be used but no electronics) and the item’s dimentions must be 300mm x 150mm x 150mm. Entry is open to individuals, families & groups.
There will be entertainment from 2pm in Ellendune Community Centre, where tea and coffee and snacks will also be available.
