There is hope for Swindon yet!
With grumblings from all corners of the town that our council is doing nothing to improve the image of Swindon surely this weeks shocking news concerning the city of Hull should leave us with a little bit of hope….
Back in 2003 Hull was named No1 in the book ‘Crap Towns: The 50 Worst Places To Live In The UK.
This year after a lot of hard work they managed to find themselves named as one of the top 10 cities in the world to visit in 2016. Yes you read that right, in the WORLD!
Rough Guides, the travel guide publisher placed Hull in eighth spot, with one quote as:
“There are atmospheric old-timey pubs, eight excellent museums and a picturesque Old Town with cobbled streets.”
We are on the way to making this list Swindon.
We have The Beehive and The Donkey, The Kingsdown among others, an amazing collection of exhibits at our museum (just locked away from public view), picturesque in places, Old Town and some cobbled streets (or wobbly paving slabs).
Rough Guides also commented, “Hull will be brimming with new hotels and restaurants, and even more of that distinctive home-grown creativity the city has always had.”
Well if plans are to be believed Swindon will be brimming with new hotels (sorry Mercure) and restaurants, as well as a ski slope, pedestrian friendly town centre oh and a non-flooding Bruce Street Bridges. Surely we stand a chance of getting on the list next time?
On a serious note if Hull can go from being the worst place in the UK to one of the top 10 in the world surely our council needs to be paying a visit, or inviting the leaders in Hull down here to get some tips.
