This December, Swindon’s Theatres are bringing the magic of Christmas to life with a packed programme of festive events guaranteed to delight visitors of all ages.
From enchanting pantomimes and captivating story trails to dazzling tree displays and family-friendly performances, there’s something for everyone to enjoy this holiday season.
A Fairytale Festival of Trees
Step into a winter wonderland at the Wyvern Theatre with the NSPCC’s Festival of Trees, inspired by the beloved pantomime Cinderella. Over 30 Christmas trees, donated and decorated by local businesses, charities, and community groups, will transform the Spotlight Room into a festive spectacle. Visitors can also embark on Cinderella’s Mice Trail to uncover hidden clues and win prizes.
Emma Hildesley, NSPCC’s Community Fundraising Manager, said: “I’m thrilled to see the Festival of Trees return for its third year, bigger and better than ever. This event brings together our community to support the NSPCC’s vital work with children and families in Swindon. We’re so grateful for the continued generosity and creativity of everyone involved.”
Running from 7th December to 5th January, all proceeds from the festival will go towards the NSPCC’s life-changing programmes, which are based locally.
Christmas in the Town Centre
Adding to the seasonal cheer, Charlton Park Estate has donated a magnificent 30ft Nordmann Fir tree for the Swindon Town Centre Christmas Tree Lights Switch-On, set to take place on Saturday 30th November outside the Town Hall.
Families can also follow The Queen’s Present Christmas Story Trail, an interactive journey through Swindon Town Centre featuring the delightful tale by award-winning children’s author and illustrator, Steve Antony. The trail begins at Central Library on 23rd November and invites participants to uncover story stops around the town, including one at the Wyvern Theatre.
Magical Performances for All
For younger audiences, the Swindon Arts Centre presents The Father Christmas Show from 18th to 24th December. This interactive production takes families to the North Pole, where Father Christmas and his elves need help preparing for Christmas Eve. With plenty of songs, magic, and festive cheer, it’s the perfect introduction to theatre for little ones.
The festive season wouldn’t be complete without the Wyvern Theatre’s annual pantomime. This year, Cinderella takes centre stage, featuring Coronation Street star Lisa George as the Fairy Godmother, Ben Goffe as Buttons, and the hilariously entertaining David Ashley as Dame Molly Miggins. Produced by Imagine Theatre and proudly sponsored by Swindon Travel Hub, the show promises plenty of laughs, toe-tapping tunes, and audience participation.
