New research has revealed that South Swindon is included in the 10 areas of Britain worst hit by a housing benefit cuts to 18-21 year old jobseekers.
Charities have warned the policy, which came into force this month, could see more and more youngsters forced onto the streets as private landlords are put off housing them.
New figures compiled by the House of Commons Library, show around 18,000 youngsters affected throughout the UK which is nearly double the 10,000 people ministers said would be affected.
The independent research shows the policy will affect 130 young people in South Swindon.
With this change in policy estimated to save £3million, should the South Swindon 130 and a handful more become homeless the savings would actually be wiped out.
The Liberal Democrats, who commissioned the research, committed today to reverse the cuts if elected.
Liberal Democrat Leader Tim Farron said: “This nasty and counterproductive policy threatens to push thousands more young people onto the streets.
“Vulnerable people with nowhere else to turn are being abandoned by this heartless Conservative government.
“Younger generations have the most to lose from this Government’s divisive policies and hard Brexit agenda.”
