McArthurGlen Designer Outlet has unveiled its latest charity partnership with Julia’s House, a local children’s hospice dedicated to supporting families with seriously ill children across Swindon and Wiltshire.
To mark the beginning of this year-long partnership, the centre has commissioned a striking new mural by local artist Judy Guillery, better known as Judee Tree Art.
The mural, a vibrant and joyful depiction of Julia’s House’s work, was painted live at the centre, capturing the attention of shoppers and spreading awareness about the invaluable care the hospice provides. It features a yellow bear from the charity’s logo, carried into the Wiltshire skies by an assortment of colourful balloons. The mural also includes personal touches from Judy’s son, Morgan, who helped with the painting, and a hidden cameo of Judy’s dog, Smudge.
“It’s the largest painting I’ve ever attempted, and while it was a challenge, especially with the weather, it’s been a fantastic project,” said Judy. “The mural celebrates how Julia’s House brings joy and comfort to families during incredibly difficult times. I hope it inspires people to support this amazing cause.”
Julia’s House relies heavily on donations, receiving just 8% of its funding from the government. This year, the charity faces a daunting £1 million budget shortfall due to rising costs and increased demand for its services. The Swindon Designer Outlet is committed to helping bridge that gap, encouraging visitors to donate at the centre’s Guest Services and support future fundraising initiatives.
Tina Cumpstey, Centre Manager at McArthurGlen Designer Outlet Swindon, commented, “We’re thrilled to be working with Julia’s House and raising awareness for their vital work. We hope our guests will support this cause, especially as we approach the festive season.”
This partnership follows the outlet’s previous involvement in the Big Dog Art Trail, where Judy and her son Morgan both painted balloon dog sculptures as part of a town-wide charity initiative. The new mural at the outlet, alongside the continued efforts to raise funds, demonstrates a strong commitment to supporting Julia’s House and the local community.
The mural is now available for all to view at the North Entrance of the Designer Outlet. Donations can be made on-site or via Julia’s House’s website.
